 In fact, before internal combustion engines became overly popular, electric engines held many land speed records.

 As early as eighteen ninety nine a Belgian fellow, Camille Jenatzy got his electric car upto and over the 100 km/h mark.

 Electric based cars were competing with their rival of petroleum powered cars all the way to up to the nineteen twenties.

 If something that is much better for the environment was already established, why did it disappear from the market for 80-90 years?

 Don’t want to be too cynical, but unfortunately the main reason for this is probably greed and corruption.
