Understanding the Purpose of a Credit Report

5:01 am Business

The information that is gathered in your credit report by credit reporting agencies is used by lenders in order to determine your credit worthiness. It is a representation of who you are, or at least the lender’s perception of you. The report reveals any payments that were delinquent, penalties, loan history, and the extent of your credit liabilities, good or bad. Therefore, it is in your best interest to keep a clean credit profile on yourself. Even if you do not apply for credit, insurance companies and potential employers will sometimes use your credit report to determine rates and your character as an employee.
