A simple blood test is used to diagnose wheat allergy and only a very small percent of individuals truly suffer from wheat allergy. Allergic symptoms come on suddenly and can be life threatening. Immediate medical attention is needed to prevent serious complications and possibly death. Treatment includes avoiding wheat in the diet. Unfortunately wheat is found in many foods and the person may have to avoid breads, cakes, cookies, crackers and pies. Even canned foods may have wheat as one of the ingredients.
