In many cases, a sinus headache may actually be a migraine headache. It is very important to clarify the type of the headache at the beginning itself as treatment for a sinus headache varies significantly from that of a migraine headache. Recent studies reveal that many people who believe that they have sinus headaches may actually have migraine headaches. For migraine headaches, treatment should be migraine-specific and related to the symptoms and pains of migraine. Whereas a sinus headache can be temporarily treated with pills like aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen to relieve the aggravation of pain. A de-congestant is also a good alternative to unblock sinuses. If a patient has incurred sinusitis because of allergy, the physician may recommend anti-histamines and antibiotics as medication.
