Salicylic acid has been used for centuries
March 8, 2008 2:12 pm HealthSalicylic acid is a topical treatment for a wide range of skin disorders, including:
plantar warts, calluses, corns, acne, dandruff, psoriasis, dermatitis, etc. It was noted by Hippocrates way back in the 5th century B.C., that it came from the bark of white willow trees and was used to help a variety of ailments.
Salicylic acid is sometimes prescribed by a doctor, but is available in many forms over the counter as a topical supplement. The strength and application of the dosage depend on the severity and location of the condition. Salicylic acid may be applied as a cream, medicated pad, lotion, gel, shampoo or plaster. To avoid severe irritation, the following products MUST be avoided when using salicylic acid: abrasive soaps or cleansers that dry out the skin, any preparation containing alcohol, topical medicine of any description for the skin. It is actually possible to overdose on this by putting too much all over your skin so be careful and talk to your pharmacist before using it.
