My mom was a great cook and baked cookies from scratch all the time when I was growing up but she did not share her secrets with me nor did she teach me to cook.  I am sure if I had asked she would have taught me but the thought never crossed my mind.  When I was required to bake cookies for an occasion I needed a very easy chocolate chip cookie recipe to follow.  I found just what I needed and got busy scrounging up a couple dozen chocolate cookies.  Thankfully they turned out very well even with my lack of baking experience.  I even got compliments on my cookies.
