My husband’s company transferred our family to England for three years and we have been having a wonderful time.  However, the first few months were pretty tough, especially trying to understand how to get things done when I had no idea what anyone was talking about.  A classic example was changing our mobile phone number.  We wanted to change carriers but keep our number.  I had no idea how to do that but my ten-year-old son told me that I needed a port authorisation code - everyone at school said so.  He was right, and I soon got one from my carrier, switched with no problems, and made a note to ask my son what he knew about converting money.
