Foreign Ownership Of Spanish Property
July 31, 2008 10:23 am MiscellaneousThere’s no restrictions on foreign ownership of spanish property in Spain. When choosing a place to buy, you should engage an English-speaking Spanish solicitor who will check that the property is correctly registered.
The solicitor (abogado/a) will also ensure the property has no debts attached to it. Once the solicitor’s satisfied the contract is in order, the buyer then lodges a ten per cent deposit.
Assuming both parties wish to proceed, the signing of the sales contract will be undertaken before the public notary in the form of a public deed. You should allow approoximately ten per cent of the purchase price for taxes and fees.
