Certain taxi firms and food takeaways in Grimsby and Cleethorpes have been found to be holding illegal fruit machines. Establishments have to apply and be granted permits; they also have to ensure that children are supervised while playing the fruit machines. Those premises which can legally hold fruit machines include shops, clubs, pubs and amusement arcades. All of the machines seized, although they could have been some of the best fruit machines around, had no permits even though they offered prizes of £25. The Gambling Commission, Tim Bright, said that one of the aims of seizing the machines is to deter children from gambling.
