There is a definition of  biometric fingerprints  that is not often used, that is a measurement of living things as the environment, a field related to ecology. However, these days, it is much more likely that the measurement of individual human body marts as well as the measurement of movements unique to each person is what is being referred to when one talks about biometrics. The study of biometric fingerprints (the former kind) is one very wide field that is quite necessary for those involved in the life science. Those involved in the latter definition are more likely to be involved in security or some other related field of biometric fingerprints.
