When my daughter created her first website, I was thrilled for her.  She had a great product and had paid to have a friend create a very pretty website. 

I asked what she was doing about promoting her site and she said she felt the product spoke for itself.  She would use word of mouth and in no time at all the website would be as popular as CNN.  I didn’t say anything, since I knew what was going to happen.

Two months later the site was still invisible, so she asked me if I had any ideas and we spent a few hours talking about free website promotion.  I also gave her tips about search engine placement and she went off to promote the site.

Today her website is growing, she is beginning to make money, and she has actually asked my advice a few more times.  Now that’s progress.
