On Durham’s doorstep !
December 31, 2008 5:10 am TravelAnother great thing about Durham, is that it is perfectly situated for touring the sights of a generous portion of the North East. After a fulfilling day exploring all the city centre has to offer, the time has come to leap into your zippy little hire car and take to those (very) open roads outside of Durham.
On the outskirts of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is situated the stunning Tees Valley, a great place for exploring incredible wide open scenery, observe the wildlife and recharge those batteries. The Moors tend to draw out the adventurous spirits inside us whether you like to walk, cycle or even climb rocks, it is all on offer here.
Drive over to the fun seaside town of Whitby, one time home of Captain Cook the great explorer. After fish and chips on the beach, there is an interesting twelfth century ruins of what was once an Abbey.
Should it take your fancy, you could take a drive over to lively Newcastle. Popular with nightclubbing teenagers and stag parties in the evening and art lovers during the day, Newcastle offers a unique experience that has to be seen to be believed.
